Dorcas Ministry provides compassionate, Christ-centered support to vulnerable families through food aid, relief assistance, and community care.
Grounded in 1 John 3:18 — “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth”, the ministry embodies practical love by serving the elderly, struggling families, and individuals facing sudden crisis within a 10-mile radius of Karura Community Chapel.
Through consistent support, relational outreach, and collaboration with other programs, Dorcas Ministry brings hope, dignity, and stability to those who need it most.
Emergency Relief Support
For individuals in sudden crisis, the ministry provides:
Rent assistance
Medical support for urgent conditions
One-off school fees
Clothing, bedding, and household essentials
Transportation for stranded individuals to return safely to their rural homes
This support ensures that immediate needs are met with compassion and dignity.
Monthly Community Visitations
Teams from the ministry visit different communities each month, offering encouragement, prayer, food packs, and emotional support. These engagements strengthen relationships, restore hope, and help identify ongoing needs.
Adopt-a-Granny Program
Individuals and small groups can adopt an elderly person in need, providing monthly support with:
Food
Rent
Regular visits and fellowship
This program restores dignity and ensures that no elderly person in the community is forgotten.
Christmas Gift Packs
Each December, Dorcas Ministry distributes 200 Christmas Gift Packs to families facing hardship — a joyful expression of God’s love during the festive season.
Dorcas Ministry partners with other Karura Community Centre programs to ensure holistic transformation:
Equipping young people from needy households with skills and startup support to build sustainable livelihoods.
Helps high school students from vulnerable families access education and mentorship.
Together, these partnerships ensure that families move from relief… to empowerment… to long-term stability.
